Sustainability Engagement in 2024 -2025
This year, students and staff at Strathclyde participated in various volunteering opportunities, including litter picks and tree planting days. Successful events throughout the year included Dr. Bike sessions and Hazaar pop-up markets. The year concluded with a successful Sustainability Week, which hosted multiple events encouraging staff and students to take action towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, online engagement with Jump saw significant growth, with hundreds of users logging thousands of impactful sustainable actions.
Key highlights of the year:
- Hazaar hosted four pop-up markets throughout the year, which proved to be very successful. There were 267 sales at Strathclyde's marketplace - with 112 students buying affordable items.
- Dr. Bike offered free bike check up and repairs to students and staff. These monthly sessions were well attended with 20-30 visitors per session receiving free bike maintenance.
- Mend in Public provided the opportunity to repair worn out clothing - or create with an expert local tailor. There were six workshops from September to June, all of which were well attended.
- Glasgow Goes Green "Sustainable Synergies" was a collaboration with Universities and Colleges across Glasgow. The event was hosted at the University of Glasgow's ARC, and contained workshops, stalls and events relating to sustainability, totalling 187 sign ups.
- Throughout Sustainability Week we heard from students, staff, and experts across the University, to better our understanding of sustainability, the SDGs, and the role we can play in driving the urgent action we need across the globe. Some of the events hosted included World Water Day 2025, ESD, Me and a Cup of Tea, and the Student Sustainability Festival. Please access our SharePoint for more information about our Sustainability Week 2025.
- Over the course of the year, the number of users on the Jump platform grew by 22% in users compared to last year, bringing the total to 726 registered participants. During that same period, users collectively completed 22,510 positive and impactful sustainable actions.
- Over the year, 44 students and staff took part in a range of volunteering opportunities at Strathclyde. There were six organised events throughout October to June, from litter picking with Glasgow City Council, to tree planting with The Conservation Volunteers.
Thank you to everyone who gave their time to support these initiatives!
