Personal statement

My research interests are firmly in the area of entrepreneurial cognition and mindset as antecedents to individual and team-level behaviour. I draw on a number of established theories of psychology (positive psychology, competence development psychology, personal constructs psychology, decision-making psychology, identity, etc.) in order to explain entrepreneurial behaviour in different settings, including but not limited to business start-up.

More recently I have developed a strong interest in entrepreneurial mindset as set of competences that enable individuals to fulfil their potential and to add value at the organisational and societal level. This work rests on the assumption that entrepreneurial mindsets can be taught and learned through dedicated intervention (based on principles of psychoeducation). 

I also have a strong interest in neurodiversity in entrepreneurship, on how minds that are wired dirrerently add value, the role of neurotypical assumptions around entrepreneurial activity and how we can create a neuroinclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem. 

My current activities focus on the development of a series of teaching and research instruments for entrepreneurial mindset intervention to be applied through engaged scholarship in contexts such as leadership for inclusive and sustainable innovation. 

My research has been published in Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, International Business Review, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, Journal of Small Business Management and other leading entrepreneurship and internationalisation outlets. I am also the author of a series of research and evaluation reports for Scottish Enterprise and Scottish EDGE, which have have helped develop ecosystem support for both start ups and internationally growing firms.
