Personal statement

Anne Boyter gained her BSc (Hons) in Pharmacy from Heriot Watt University and has subsequently gained an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and a PhD from the University of Strathclyde and a postgraduate certificate in Health Economics from the University of Aberdeen. Before taking up post in SIPBS she was a senior Clinical Pharmacist in NHS Tayside specialising in respiratory medicine and infectious diseases. In addition to her academic post Anne is also a member of the Scottish Pharmacy Board of the RPS and a member of the steering group for the SIGN/BTS Asthma guideline, currently co-chairing the pharmacology group.

Anne's research interests are centred on the areas of respiratory medicine, infection and health evaluation. These interests link the analytical and formulation aspects to patient care. The main themes of the research are associated with the problems and consequences associated with the administration of appropriate therapy to groups of patients. Particular interests are the local and systematic effects of inhaled therapy, bacterial contamination of inhaler devices and drug utilisation and pharmacoepidemiology related to disease progression. She also has interests in educational research in particular the development and use of e-learning in pharmacy practice which has involved the development of the SCRIPT program used in undergraduate teaching.

Anne's teaching covers pharmaceutical microbiology, a variety of aspects of pharmacy practice particularly related to respiratory disease and infection in all four years of the MPharm and the postgraduate MSc in Clinical Pharmacy. She is the programme Director for the MPharm degree and has led the recent review of the curriculum.
