Visit to Metropolitan University College, Denmark
Linda Harris, from the School of Education at Strathclyde, recently visited Metropolitan University College, Denmark.
This was Linda’s second visit to Metropolitan University College. This time, she especially enjoyed teaching a very lively and enthusiastic group of students about classroom dialogue and discourse. Linda encouraged the students to think about the complex world of the classroom and worked with them to see how they might engage with young people in schools.
The focus of the sessions was on promoting deep thinking through questioning and chains of enquiry. A key element of the work is to encourage learners to interact directly with their peers about the topic under discussion. The role of the teacher was explored in relation to the approaches, particularly in relation to the authority of the teacher in the classroom. Linda also uses these techniques with PGDE students at Strathclyde.
