University of Strathclyde USA Foundation's Use of Personal Data - Information Notice

1. About the University of Strathclyde USA Foundation

The University of Strathclyde USA Foundation (the "Foundation") is an independent charitable corporation, established in the USA, with 501(c)(3) status. The Foundation supports the University of Strathclyde by providing fundraising and alumni engagement expertise and making grants in support of charitable and educational purposes in areas such as scholarships, teaching and learning resources and students' clubs and societies.

The Foundation is committed to protecting your personal information and as a US-based organisation, is subject to US legislation. This information notice explains how the Foundation uses your personal data for fundraising and alumni relations purposes.

Where data is given directly to, or collected by, the Foundation, the Foundation is the organisation responsible for the use of your personal data.

2. Why we need your information

We want to keep you informed of projects that the Foundation supports and to identify fundraising programmes which you may be interested in supporting, through donations and other forms of financial and non-financial support. Ultimately, collecting and using your information allows us to better support our donors and friends and advance the aims of the Foundation.

We would also like to contact you about news and developments concerning the Foundation’s support of charitable and educational purposes.

3. Who do we share your data with? 

Personal information provided to the University of Strathclyde USA Foundation is securely transferred to the University of Strathclyde’s Alumni & Development Office for fundraising and administrative purposes. Data transferred to the University of Strathclyde’s Alumni & Development Office which is based in the UK, is done so under a Data Sharing Agreement.

Where necessary, to assist with gift administration, IRS reporting and State Registration for fundraising requirements, the University of Strathclyde employs the services of Chapel & York Ltd https://chapel-york.com. Data transferred to Chapel & York is done so under a Data Sharing Agreement.

4. Your rights and changes to this policy

You can request to amend the information that the Foundation holds about you, or your communication preferences, at any time by calling +44(0)141 548 2773, or emailing alumniweb@strath.ac.uk (full contact details in section 7).

We will try to adhere to your requests in relation to your personal data wherever possible, however, please note, in some circumstances there may be other legal requirements which prohibit us from doing so, e.g. for financial/accounting purposes.
